Sharkosuchus is a crocodilian-shark kaiju made by KingOfKretaceous, and is the main kaiju of the Sharkosuchus series.

Name[]

The name Sharkosuchus is derived from Sarcosuchus, the name held by a prehistoric, gargantuan crocodilian. The word "Shark" replaces "Sarc" within the name, creating a similar sounding yet distinct name.

Design[]

As aforementioned, Sharkosuchus is a crocodilian-shark kaiju who has a generally dinosaur-esque appearance. Her rear legs have increased in mass to the point where she walks bipedally. Her snout resembles that of a crocodile, albeit shorter and thicker than average. Her mouth houses two rows of sharp teeth and an immobile tongue. On both sides of her neck are a pair of five gills, these which enable underwater respiration. While the arms are not as large as the legs, they are somewhat close in size and not vestigial; with the arms ending with four fingers and one thumb, she is able to grab and throw various items.

Her back is plated with hundreds of thick osteoderms which provide protection from enemy attacks and other various objects. Residing on the back between the layers of scutes is a large dorsal fin which has a minor bite mark, and on the sides of the body are pectoral fins, both of which assist with aquatic mobility alongside the four webbed toes on each foot. The tail is long, further covered in scutes and provides counterbalance from the front of the body. The end of the tail expands into a caudal fin, which also aids with underwater movement, although it is unable to be closed.

The upper half of her body is covered in a greenish grey color, while the underbelly is coated with a pale white color. Her caudal fin is a mix of the two colors; her toe webbing and mouth flaps are the same color. Her teeth are a pale yellow, while her tongue is pink with the inner mouth being a darker pink. Her eye is dark green in the middle, and a darker green on the outsides.

Personality[]

Sharkosuchus is a highly territorial creature and considers Earth her domain. While disinterested in organisms far smaller than herself, she can sense other creatures with a similar, enormous size. Unless an already known friend or relative, she will believe that the creature in question is attempting to take over her territory; this will inevitably lead to clashes as she protects her domain.

Origins[]

Within the region of Oceania during 794 BC, a Saltwater Crocodile and a Great White encountered each other by chance. This quickly intensified into a confrontation, and the clash was nearby an extremely unstable volcano. Only minutes after the beginning of the battle, a violent explosion destroyed both the volcano and the two creatures; however, a high concentration of rare and radioactive chemicals in the explosion would result in the pieces of the disassembled creatures merging into a new entity - Sharkosuchus. After awakening, the new infant creature traveled to the Hawaiian islands to hibernate and grow for thousands of years, reaching maturity after approximately a millennia.

While she was never properly documented by most nations of the world until late into the twentieth century, for hundreds of years she had been well-known by the indigenous Polynesians of the Hawaiian archipelago. She existed in their religion as an offshoot of the goddess Pele, and sometimes the god Kāmohoaliʻi and goddess Kihawahine. According to legend, she was created to protect the Hawaiian islands from foreign threats; assumedly, these were other, undocumented kaiju. Despite this, most existing evidence of her existence in their culture was never recorded, save for a few vague legends and the occasional surviving illustration.

History[]

First Generation[]

Sharkosuchus (game; later adapted to film)[]

In 1984, Mauna Loa's most recent eruption was upon Hawaii and drawing to a close. While damage from the eruption itself was overall minimal, it was far from the final damage it would ultimately cause, as Sharkosuchus had reached a stage mature enough to finally emerge from her molten tomb. The volcanic activity began spiking as she began awakening from her long slumber, culminating in her full emergence from the top of the volcano. Her emergence triggered a rapid response from the United States, sending an impromptu squadron of fighter jets and strategic bombers to drive her off. As she wandered around the island looking for any possible threats, the squadron arrived; she inflicted heavy casualties, but retreated due to no longer seeing the island as safe.

After going undetected for a few hours, she eventually resurfaced in Pearl City. With a tsunami heralding her arrival, she wandered through the city, causing damage due to her large size and unfamiliarity with the environment of a large city. In a few minutes, the already mobilized forces of the United States attacked the large creature; she responded with hostility once more, now properly unleashing her abilities on the forces. The following hour had seen no results and high casualties for the Air Force; in a desperate bid to end the fight, the military called for the use of "Big Louis", an experimental atomic bomb with a force of 1 megaton but had a highly centralized blast force. The bomb was dropped directly above Sharkosuchus, decimating the remaining structures of Pearl City. Sharkosuchus ultimately survived with rather minimal damage and returned to the sea. No longer viewing the archipelago as a place of refuge, she crossed the Pacific to Mount Pinatubo to heal and lay dormant once again.

Sharkosuchus vs. Hybrehemoth (film)[]

The year 1991 saw the second appearance of Sharkosuchus; an elaborate series of tunnels constructed by the man-made creature Hybrehemoth had destabilized Mount Pinatubo severely. In the minutes leading to the climactic event of the eruption, Hybrehemoth emerged from his underground network of burrows, as they had almost completely filled with magma. Sensing a threat to her domain in the nearby vicinity, Sharkosuchus began to emerge from the volcano, triggering the climax of the eruption and causing the collapse of Pinatubo's summit. Both kaiju emerged during the passing of Typhoon Yunya, but soon caught sight of each other due to their proximity and sheer size. Seeing Hybrehemoth as encroaching upon her territory, Sharkosuchus sought to immediately dispose of her adversary. The sharper reflexes and agility of Hybrehemoth neutralized Sharkosuchus' ranged attacks and physical strength, although the same applied the other way around; this made it evident quickly that their first battle would be nothing but a stalemate. Hybrehemoth eventually retreated to the southeast, leaving the battle without a decisive victor and prompting Sharkosuchus to give chase.

Later in the day, Sharkosuchus had caught up to Hybrehemoth, who had landed and been resting on the coasts of the northeastern coast of Mindanao. Another battle soon ensued, which raged even longer than the first and still without result. After much struggle, Hybrehemoth suddenly unleashed a new ability; a spinneret embedded in his tail. This sudden new ability was able to shoot out something akin to a spider web, which incapacitated Sharkosuchus long enough for Hybrehemoth to bite her in the gills and inject her with his deadly venom. Sharkosuchus quickly showed signs of weakening, prompting Hybrehemoth to take hold of her and take flight, hoping to traverse back east to his place of origin with his newest meal. However, before crossing the Philippine Trench, Sharkosuchus was able to regain enough lucidity to blast Hybrehemoth's wing with a Pyroclastic Blast, which resulted in both kaiju falling into the ocean below. In the ensuing final scuffle, Hybrehemoth attempted to escape but was unable to, as he was simultaneously in his weakest element and Sharkosuchus's strongest. After drowning Hybrehemoth on the outskirts of the Philippines Trench, she rested on the seafloor next to the hybrid for several weeks to recover from the venom, lying on death's doorstep numerous times. Eventually, she recovered enough to migrate to the Soufrière Hills volcano in the Caribbean, entering hibernation to further recuperate after the battle and long journey.

Sharkosuchus vs. Koseiru (film)[]

Six years after the confrontation between Sharkosuchus and Hybrehemoth, the former had fully recovered from the venom. However, her peaceful slumber would not last, as a recent asteroid impact had disturbed the Soufrière Hills volcano, which had already been semi-active since 1995. After a few weeks of instability, an alien lifeform Koseiru made landfall on the island of Montserrat; Sharkosuchus detected the alien and awoke, triggering the violent eruption of June 25. Her emergence from the volcano caused a pyroclastic flow that destroyed the island's airport; something which drew the attention of Koseiru. Koseiru, seeing Sharkosuchus as a large source of bones and muscle to grow further, screeched at the emerging kaiju as a challenge. In turn this drew Sharkosuchus' attention, who was twice as large as the alien. Quickly realizing its mistake, Koseiru quickly withdrew into the ocean, spitting out a cloud of acidic mist at the pursing Sharkosuchus to try and stall her for a brief moment.

After about an hour, Sharkosuchus had located Koseiru, who had changed into a more aquatic-adapted form and was also looking for more creatures to gain mass from. The two creatures, who were now more evenly matched in strength after Koseiru had consumed more creatures, began engaging in melee combat. Eventually, Koseiru stabbed Sharkosuchus in the shoulder with an extendable bone spear in the mouth, prompting both to leave the battle and recover for later. Sharkosuchus emerged on Montserrat's western coast shortly before sunset, and waited for the alien there. Some hours into the night, the alien arrived in a new flying form and was even larger than before. Initially Koseiru's flying form was able to slowly whittle Sharkosuchus down by performing hit and runs, but eventually it was knocked from the sky after the native kaiju coated the alien's means of flight with stone. However upon hitting the ground, Koseiru seemed to melt into a shapeless mass. White and red shapes were still discernible, with the white shapes quickly moving to create a new outline which the red shapes soon followed. When the shapes re-solidified, Koseiru had transformed into its massive final form, which quickly flew back into the fight. Sharkosuchus, who was taken by surprise by the alien's rapid re-entry into the fight, was soon dominated in brutal close-quarters combat by Koseiru, whose bones and armor provided extremely durable armor.

Koseiru eventually managed to topple Sharkosuchus over, and prepared to deliver the coup de grâce. However, a combined United Nations air fleet arrived before Koseiru could do such and laid attack to the alien, responding to reports of it attacking civilians on beaches or ships at sea. Distracted by the new attacking force, Koseiru took flight and began attacking the planes - leaving Sharkosuchus alone and giving her enough time to prepare a new attack that would turn the tides of battle. After dealing with most of the planes, Koseiru redirected its attention to Sharkosuchus, who had gotten back to her feet and appeared to be in severe pain. As it dived at her to try and push her back to the ground, it failed to notice the ground below it charring and glowing, which soon completely gave way. Sharkosuchus used her Magmakinesis for the first time as a concentrated fountain of lava slammed directly into Koseiru's underside - the heat of the lava was enough to completely incinerate its wings and cause its bodily muscles to catch aflame. Sharkosuchus charged towards Koseiru as it careened into an ever-expanding pool of molten lava on the ground, and seized its neck in her jaws. She crushed down on the neck, causing the bones and muscle to give way as she decapitated the alien. She dropped the head away from the body but still in the lava pool, watching as both parts were destroyed by flames and immense heat.

What remained of the United Nations fleet dispersed as Sharkosuchus slowly waded into the sea, collapsing into the ocean once deep enough. She would slowly make her way to the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano in southern Chile, slowed down immensely by the heavy wounds she sustained in battle. She entered dormancy upon entering its magma chamber to recover from the fight, but temporarily awoke in 2002 to asexually produce an egg.

Sharkosuchus vs. Odniamubiah (film)[]

In 2011, Sharkosuchus had recovered from her fight with Koseiru, albeit with numerous scars. In the meantime, a large colony of Odniamubiah had recently created new tunnels near the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano. On June 4, the insects came in close enough proximity to the volcano to alert Sharkosuchus to their presence, causing her to emerge and thereby trigger an eruption. A very small swarm of workers was forced into open air by the eruption; in a brief clash, the now-awake Sharkosuchus was able to kill the swarm, then began moving northeast, sensing something in that direction. As Sharkosuchus advanced further northeast, more and more swarms attacked, with each new swarm growing larger and larger. None of the swarms were able to stop Sharkosuchus from her trek, and as she reached Buenos Aires the situation reached a climax. Seemingly the rest of the colony emerged, followed by the Queen Odniamubiah herself. While none of the Odniamubiah were stronger than Sharkosuchus individually, the sheer numbers of the colony was simply overwhelming. Whittled down by numerous hit and run attacks, she eventually retreated a bit back west to regain some strength; however, the colony would not let her go so easily.

Only a few minutes after retreating, a very large chunk of the colony - including the Queen - had caught up to her once again. Recognizing that she most likely would not be able to outrun the colony, she elected to do battle. While the colony initially burnt down her stamina significantly, she eventually discovered that her Pyroclastic Blast could wipe out dozens of subordinate Odniamubiah at a time, and Obsidian Bullets a smaller but still large amount; with this discovery the tides turned significantly, and soon the battle was primarily a confrontation between the Queen and Sharkosuchus, although some smaller Odniamubiah also participated. A melee brawl soon began; with neither side willing to yield, the battle would have lasted hours if not for outside intervention. Anti-kaiju weaponry had been undergoing extensive research for several years, and the first trial was to begin during the Sharkosuchus and Odniamubiah clash. They elected to only fire on the insectoid, since other brewing plans would become much harder if Sharkosuchus had been upset by the humans. The weapons were used to shocking effect; the Odniamubiah queen became completely disoriented and even showed signs of somewhat significant damage on areas of weapon contact. With this distraction, Sharkosuchus was able to get a tight grip onto the Queen's head, eventually ripping it off and putting an end to the threat of an Odniamubiah colony on the planet. Afterwards she began moving back to the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano after the fight, killing the occasional rogue Odniamubiah subordinate.

Returning to the volcano to check up on her egg, she was unable to find it within the volcano. She sniffed out the air trying to catch a possible trail, eventually following a lead into the Pacific Ocean. While searching for her egg, or hatched offspring, both the drawn out battle beforehand and swimming for hours had taken its final toll on her stamina. Completely exhausted, Sharkosuchus made her way into the Kilaeua volcano and entered dormancy once again.

Sharkosuchus vs. Iesukom (film)[]

In 2018, Sharkosuchus awoke from hibernation, and was able to sense something on the island of Maui some miles away. Believing it to possibly be her offspring, she emerged from Kilauea on April 30th, destabilizing the volcano and eventually causing numerous lava flows to emerge from Kilauea's eastern rift zone. She met little resistance as she made her way through Hawai'i, as the United States did not want to suffer yet another humiliation by causing destruction without results. Eventually, Sharkosuchus made her way across Hawai'i and entered the Pacific, travelling northwest towards Maui. Upon landfall she devastated the southeasternmost coast by becoming the accidental harbinger of a tsunami. She tracked down the sense to a large, seemingly dying tree; not seeing her child, she was taken by surprise when the dying tree - which was actually the pair of octopi kaiju Iesukom in disguise - began to assail her. The tag-team pair, with their combined brains and the element of surprise, were able to rapidly overwhelm Sharkosuchus, who was forced to the ground in seconds. However, the tides of battle began to shift as Sharkosuchus began to gain her bearings, allowing her to eventually knock out the smaller of the two. Afterwards, she began retreating northwest while attempting to stave off the larger of the Iesukom, making her way into the ocean and fleeing towards Oahu.

After approximately an hour, Sharkosuchus made landfall in Honolulu, causing yet another destructive tsunami to wipe out large portions of the city. Only a few minutes later, the Iesukom pair also reached the deluged city, and the previous battle resumed. In an urban setting, the odds were stacked against Sharkosuchus, as the octopi were able to slip through narrow openings while utilizing the unique terrain to their advantage. Despite this, Sharkosuchus' sheer durability was enough to at least hold the battle in a stalemate; that was, until, Iesukom unleashed its ultimate weapon: a bright violet ray drawing power directly from the sun. Even Sharkosuchus' innate heat resistance proved ineffective in the wake of this ultraviolet beam, leaving severe burns on areas of contact. Even this did not deter her, however, and the battle continued to rage while moving inland. The tides began turning again as the Iesukom pair lost their main advantages in the fight. However, the United Nations had finally elected to test out their newest weaponry against the battling kaiju. The weapon in question arrived as the Iesukom began to lose - the Toadstool-V7, a state of the art robot equipped with numerous anti-kaiju weaponry. Upon the mech's arrival, both Sharkosuchus and Iesukom were tired and instantly overwhelmed, leaving the fight as a stalemate as both retreated.

After the battle, Sharkosuchus shifted her course and travelled to the east. Having little interest for the time being for finding her child, she began to burrow into the volcano she had arrived at - Santa María. Upon entering its magma chamber, she began to rest and heal her burn scars from the preceding clash.

Abilities[]

Amphibiousness[]

Sharkosuchus is amphibious due to having adaptations to survive on land and water. Having acquired both lungs and gills, she is able to respirate underwater or on land. While she is normally somewhat sluggish over land, she is able to sprint for short periods of time. Naturally, her build makes her an excellent swimmer, allowing her to move great distances over short periods of time, swimming at a top speed of 52 knots, or 59.8405 mph.

Bite Force[]

Sharkosuchus has a very strong bite force, with a maximum force of 34,250 newtons or about 7,700 pounds of force. While it is well geared towards bypassing otherwise impenetrable armor, the ability is not used commonly use due to Sharkosuchus not often engaging in close quarters combat.

Pyroclastic Blast[]

Sharkosuchus' most prominent ability is expelling a large, quickly moving cloud of ash, smoke and dust, called the Pyroclastic Blast. The blast has seven categories (sometimes referred to as VEI), each of which vary in strength:

Category/VEI 1[]

The weakest form of breath with the least concentrated cloud, but fastest to fire. Partially covers materials in stone.

Category/VEI 2[]

The second weakest form of breath. Slightly stronger and has a more concentrated cloud, but still quick to fire. Covers materials in a thin layer of stone.

Category/VEI 3[]

The average form of breath; a medium point of concentration concerning the cloud. Charges somewhat quickly while more powerful than the previous two. Covers materials in a thicker layer of stone.

Category/VEI 4[]

A stronger form of breath. Charges at a mild rate, but powerful and rather concentrated. Can shatter materials of light durability while coating harder materials in a deep layer of stone.

Category/VEI 5[]

The strongest form of breath at ready access, and third strongest overall. Very powerful with a highly concentrated cloud, but charges slowly. Able to destroy materials with medium durability; particularly robust materials are encased in a very solid layer of stone.

Category/VEI 6[]

The second strongest form of breath, and wields an extremely concentrated cloud. Only accessible in her Eruption form and very slow to build up, but extremely powerful. Shatters materials known to be very hardy.

Category/VEI 7[]

The strongest form of breath; at this stage, the cloud is dense enough that it acts more like a beam than an actual cloud. Begins uncontrollably and erratically firing in the late stages of Eruption Form, and annihilates all but the hardest materials.

Obsidian Bullets[]

Sharkosuchus is able to fire a barrage of small obsidian bullets. While they inflict pain upon piercing the skin, the damage caused is overall minimal; it is a good weapon for distraction as the stings can cause the opponent to momentarily lose focus.

Magmakinesis[]

Magmakinesis is an ability seeing very seldom use. During this attack, Sharkosuchus pushes up magma from underground to the surface, culminating in either large pools of lava or concentrated beams. While potentially very powerful, it also has extreme drawbacks: it has a considerable chance of triggering something akin to a migraine, and it can often be useless depending on her proximity to readily available magma.

Supervolcanic Immolation[]

The Supervolcanic Immolation is an extremely desperate last resort for Sharkosuchus. It can only be manually carried out after she has asexually produced an egg, although it automatically triggers after being in the Eruption Form for two weeks. As it begins, Sharkosuchus begins to glow orange at the same time while the surrounding temperatures soon begin to rapidly increase, causing most of the area to catch aflame and/or later melt.

Over the course of a minute Sharkosuchus' orange glow slowly shifts to bright yellow, then white as the intensity of the glow also begins spiking. At the climax of the event, Sharkosuchus suddenly stops glowing - only a moment afterwards, she explodes with a force near the Toba supereruption about 73,000 years ago. The resulting explosion kills Sharkosuchus, but completely annihilates anything above ground level in a very large radius, hence its last ditch nature.

Weaknesses[]

Sharkosuchus, compared to other kaiju, has relatively low stamina. While still strong and able to tough out a battle, she will become exhausted when suffering major physical damage and/or in a battle lasting for a long period of time. She is also unable to battle effectively when dealing with multiple opponents, lacking the skill to focus on one adversary for a long enough period of time; she normally requires an ally to offset this and ultimately win the day.

Trivia[]

  • Sharkosuchus is able to reproduce asexually, although the biological process for this is unknown.
  • The current roar for Sharkosuchus was made by LesStudios.
